Step aside, high-fashion runway-ers, there’s a new kind of model in town. They’re shorter than your average model, averaging only a few feet in height, and typically have four legs instead of two. By now you probably know what we’re talking about. That’s right, it’s dogs!
Dogs on the runway? Yup, you heard us right. But these dogs aren’t just fashion models showing off some great puppy style. They’re actually there to rock the runway for one important cause: Pet Adoption!
The event is called Rescue the Runway and it takes place every year in New York City. Not only do adorable and adoptable pups walk the runway, but the event promotes fostering, volunteering, animal advocacy, and has options to donate as well! We can practically hear those tails wagging!
Participating model pups walk the runway, getting photos taken by pup-parazzi, and are accompanied by local community heroes like firefighters, police officers, vets and EMTs (where do we sign up?) and other notable guests. The point of the walk is for these homeless pups to catch the attention of someone who will provide them a forever home by putting them in the spotlight.
And that’s not all. Besides helping out adorable doggos, the event takes place at one of NYC’s best beer halls. Yeah, we didn’t think it could get any better either, but it totally did. Their 2016 event took place at Berg’n, a brickwork beer hall in Brooklyn. Attendees were able to sip beer and hang out with adorable pups working their best angles on the runway. There are also in house food vendors, so pups and humans alike can enjoy some tasty treats. And we know that no event would be complete without tons of photo opportunities. Well, Mr. Bones & Co.’s has the event covered, with a heart-melting Pitbull Kissing Photo Booth, where you can take an Insta-worthy pic with a pitbull. The 2016 event included a silent auction with amazing items and swag for the four-legged models, and a even a raffle! A regular ticket gets you admission to the event and two drink tickets, and the VIP package gets attendees access to an open bar, meet and greet, reserved seating for the show, and a pawsome gift bag.
Now this is one fashion show that we can really get behind. Around 7.6 million pets enter animal shelters in a single year in the United States alone. There are tons of pets that really need our help in finding them a forever home and freeing up more shelter space to keep friendly pups off the streets. We love the initiative taken by Rescue the Runway! If you’re interested in helping out, consider adopting or fostering a pup. A little can really go a long way!
