Seriously. This place is a must-see!
The Annenberg PetSpace is a place unlike any other. It’s not just an adoption center, but a place to learn about pets, play with them, and interact with other pet enthusiasts! People are calling it a “pet community” because it offers a space for pet lovers to come together to grow, learn, and make lifelong friendships with pets.
There are so many cool things to see at the Annenberg PetSpace, and here are some of the highlights from our trip!
A gigantic human-sized hamster wheel (so you can get your exercise in too!)
A place called the scratching post where visitors could interact with cats!
Most importantly, it has an adoption area, which features pet “suites”! These state-of-the-art “suites” are for dogs who are waiting for their forever homes. Each suite has a touch screen monitor that tells visitors more about the pup!
The whole facility is just about 30,000 square feet, giving it plenty of room for pets to run around.
And it doesn’t just focus on dogs, either! There are cats and rabbits up for adoption too, so pet lovers of all kinds have a community-oriented space. Even for those who are just curious, there tons of awesome opportunities to learn about dogs, cats, and rabbits, with everything on how to properly take care of them to basic veterinary procedures. We loved getting to visit and meet other dogs, owners, and pet lovers! and our very own Frida Chiquita (the oh-so-cute 3-legged chihuahua) got to get up on stage!
The PetSpace was made possible by Wallis Annenberg, a philanthropist who came up with the idea, and is a huge pet lover herself. We loved getting to meet her, especially Ozzy, the Mean Mug Pug, who snapped this pawsome photo with her!
Can’t you just feel the love?
The PetSpace also has a Leadership Institute, where there are 16 research fellows who are exploring the bond between people and their pets. And they are going deeper, studying the genetics of house pets, and the link between human and pet diseases. The fellows are from different academic fields, so you can bet that their findings are going to be groundbreaking.
The Annenberg Petspace is run by a staff of 30 people, with over 100 volunteers, and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10am-6pm. Want to know the best part? Admission is completely and totally free, so you can visit and play with pets to your heart’s content without having to spend a dime.
