Many large companies support charities around the world, but very few love dogs as much as we do. One company may surprise you…Tito’s Vodka out of Austin, Texas is as dog friendly as they come! You may be asking, “how did a vodka distillery incorporate dogs into their business? Is there going to be dog fur in my next vodka soda?” It all started 17 years ago when the infamous Tito decided to start his own vodka distillery in a rural part of Austin where many rabid and feral dogs would roam. Tito, being the dog lover that he is, would feed the dogs that came by and eventually built a yard to house them all. Tito would get the homeless dogs the medical attention they needed and would either keep them in his pack or allow an employee to take them home. The most important thing to Tito was that each dog had a safe, loving home. Tito’s pack continued to grow right alongside the vodka company from the beginning. Tito’s Vodka became so successful the company had to relocate to a larger space in Austin, but that didn’t stop Tito from bringing his dog family with him. Tito brought his dogs to the distillery every day and encouraged his employees to do the same. On an average day, you could find at least 3 dogs at Tito’s Vodka distillery. But on “Bring Your Dog To Work Day”, up to 18 dogs have been at the distillery at once!
Tito’s love for dogs didn’t end there. In addition to allowing (and encouraging) pets in the office, Tito later partnered with Emancipet, a clinic that spays and neuters dogs that is conveniently located next door to the Tito’s Vodka marketing office in Austin. Not only does Tito sell dog friendly merchandise on his website and send all proceeds to Emancipet, but he also encourages his employees to help fundraise for the Emancipet mobile outreach units, which provide spaying and neutering centers to hard-to-reach places. Best of all, Tito provides the Emancipet events and fundraisers with all the Tito’s Vodka they can drink. “Austin embraced us and helped us get to a more national level,” said a Tito’s Vodka employee, “let’s pay it forward and help Emancipet get beyond Texas and help other communities cut down on pet populations and help people take care of their pets affordably.”
The final step in Tito’s support of the dog community and dog lovers was creating a dog-centric blog on his website called “Vodka for Dog People”. Tito shares dog related news and articles on the blog and encourages people to post their own dog stories in hopes of like-minded dog people to connect and help each other out.
Although it may appear that these are some lucky dogs, the real winners of this story are the humans who get to work at Tito’s Vodka distillery and enjoy the company of dogs at work! Said a Tito’s employee, “the pet-friendly workplace really helps with morale and loyalty and it makes people work longer and harder in their offices.” If you know of a company in your area that could benefit from allowing dogs in the office, share Tito’s story with them and help spread the dog lover support.
