If you’re anything like me, you can easily spend hours upon hours watching/reading/obsessing over dog rescue stories instead of doing anything productive in your day. It’s a real problem. I’ve started avoiding social media completely because of it. Although you may suffer from animal video addiction, I will continue supplying you with heartwarming stories, photos, thoughts and ideas all about dogs. Enjoy it while you still can fight the addiction. Here are my favorite dog rescue stories of 2016. Brace yourself. They’re really great—really great. Okay, I’m already crying.

- Charlie The Pit Bull
A car sadly hit poor Charlie one day. Instead of being left for dead on the streets, Charlie was picked up by a caring and wonderful man and rushed to a local animal hospital. It took him months to recover and a great deal of therapy. Not only was Charlie suffering from the car accident, staff members at the animal hospital discovered he had a heartworm disease. That didn’t keep him down! Staff members and foster parents adore Charlie. Unfortunately he can’t live with other dogs but he loves humans more than anything and just wants to find a happy and welcoming home. Charlie is lucky to be alive and ready to move in.
- Jacob the Resilient Pit Bull
In 2015, Jacob was riding in the back of a pick up truck when his owner suddenly hit a tree, sending Jacob flying in the air. The man was charged with driving under the influence and Jacob was immediately taken to a shelter. He was discovered with a dislocated hip, eternal bleeding and damaged lungs. Jacob had to have two surgeries in order to help his dislocated hips, but he got through it from love and care by the shelter. His medical expenses were so expensive police and firefighters in New Hampshire worked together to raise thousands of dollars for Jacob. The veteraniran that helped save Jacob loved his cuddles and sweet personality so much, she adopted him herself. Talk about happily ever after.
- Lola The Fighter
Lola knew only one way of sleeping, on cold, hard concrete. She didn’t have a good life or a safe home and she spent most of her days cold and alone. It was no way for any dog to live. Lola spent 8 years chained inside a dark, dirty garage where she spent most of her days lying down, afraid. Someone eventually noticed poor Lola and called Animal control and got her out of there. She greeted the people from AMA animal rescue with love and calm energy although she had been in the worst living condition imaginable. Lola was instantly so lovable and sweet she was adopted quickly. She now lives in Manhattan and sleeps in luxury on soft, warm beds every single night.
- Romeo The Miracle
Romeo the Golden Retriever is a fighter. He was trapped for 9 long days in rubble from a horrific earthquake that killed 300 people in Italy in 2016. Firefighters dug through layers of cement and stone and finally found Romeo because of his frantic barks, alerting the entire community of volunteers. He’s truly a miracle.
