Wes Anderson has brought us inspiring movies about everything from a dysfunctional family to a fantastic fox to an Eastern European Hotel, but never has he made a movie about our favorite subject… DOGS! That is, until now. Anderson’s newest movie The Isle of Dogs will be unleashed in April 2018, but it will be well worth the wait. This animated adventure will take place in Japan and will follow Anderson’s tradition of clean, colorful style. Though the director has kept the plot close to his vest, Deadline recently revealed that the film would center around “a boy’s odyssey in search of his pup.” Though the plot is timeless and has been done before in various ways, we’re sure Anderson will infuse the movie with his very unique look and feel that has made him one of the most recognizable directors in Hollywood. As if Wes Anderson and dogs aren’t enough to get you running to the theater next April, the movie will also feature the voices of Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, Harvey Keitel, Liev Schrieber, Greta Gerwig, Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban and Yoko Ono, to name drop just a few. This is going to be one paw-fect flick that you won’t want to miss!

And in honor of Anderson’s upcoming film, we’ve put together a list of the best, downright doggiest animated movies to watch leading up to the big release next year:
- Lady and the Tramp
Haven’t watched two dogs share a plate of pasta since you were a child? Have a kid of your own who has never experienced this Walt Disney classic? If either of these are true, dust off your old VHS and take a walk down memory lane – just don’t forget the leash!
This is arguably the greatest dog movie series ever created. So if you don’t have any plans this Friday night, invite over a group of friends who also grew up in the 90s, pop open a bottle of bubbly and enjoy movie after movie of this loveable Saint Bernard wreaking havoc on an innocent family.
- Homeward Bound
Although there’s a cat in this movie, we’ll let it slide because Chance and Shadow are too great to miss! Whether Sassy is drowning in a river, Chance is fighting off bears and porcupines or Shadow is having an overly intimate moment with Peter, Homeward Bound will never let you down.
- Best in Show
Christopher Guest is pure genius in everything he does, but Best in Show is perhaps his greatest work of art. This hilarious satire mocks the dog show world and all of the wacky characters in it. The all-star cast includes Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Bob Balaban and Christopher Guest himself! If you’re looking for a belly laugh, then this is the movie for you.
This award-winning animation is the perfect thing to put you in the mood for Anderson’s dog-centric film coming out next year. With a great story, great music and a Great Dane with the voice of a chipmunk, Up will have you laughing, crying and howling.
