Happy National Pet Day!
National Pet Day was created in 2006 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige in order to celebrate how wonderful pets are and to bring public awareness to the plight of many different kinds of shelter and rescue animals waiting for a forever home.
“Many people think that humans are superior to animals, but how is that possible when humans can’t even properly love each other? We’re not able to come close to being superior to the pure & perfect unconditional souls that animals are.
If we could…we’d have no need for this day”.-Colleen Paige
In honor of National Pet Day we have celebrities who have rescued their furry little friends!
Believe it or not Celebrities are known to be selfish but not this group of phenomenal, thoughtful humans. We honor the fortunate people that help the unfortunate dogs!

- Jane Lynch & Olivia & Frances
You may know Jane Lynch from the popular TV show, Glee but we know her for her love of dogs. The actress adopted her first dog, Olivia at an adoption fair and her second dog, Frances, at a Kinder4rescue.org event. The dogs appear to be pretty happy with their mom and their home.
- Jon Hamm & Cora
My love Jon Hamm can’t get any cuter. He’s a mysterious heartthrob in Mad Men and a dog lover? What’s happening? He adopted his beloved dog Cora with ex girlfriend Jennifer Westdfeldt. In an interview with Animal Fair he said, “We went and saw her and fell in love. She’s been in our lives for 8 years.” Oh Cora, you are one lucky dog.
- Simon Cowell and Sqiddly & Diddly
Although Simon Cowell is known for his offensive side comments and harshly opinionated words, he has love in his cold heart for his two Terriers, Sqiddly and Diddly. He adopted the two pups in 2013 and hasn’t stopped gushing about them since.
- Josh Hutcherson & Driver
Hunger Games film star, Josh Hutcherson, has a soft side for all things dog. He isn’t just your regular dog lover either. He adopted a Pit Bull that had been in a shelter for over 110 days. He most likely saved Driver’s life. He’s a hero in the Hunger Games and in real life. Go Josh!
- Sandra Bullock and Poppy & Ruby
America’s sweetheart is a sweetheart to dog’s too! She adopted two adorable pups with special needs. Poppy is a tripod and Ruby is a bipod. If you haven’t figured out what a bipod is, that’s a dog with two legs! She carries Ruby most of the time and let’s Poppy walk on his own three feet. Thanks for adopting these special dogs in need Sandra!
- Miranda Lambert and her SEVEN DOGS
Country legend, Mirand Lambert doesn’t just have one tiny dog, she has SEVEN large breeds animals. She told CMT.com, “It feels more like home when they’re there with me.” She loved the adoption process so much she started her own foundation with her mother in 2009 all about dog adoption. It’s called MuttNation.
- Kristen Bell and Lola and Mr. Shakes
Frozen star, Kristen Bell keeps getting cuter. When I found out her two dogs with probably the greatest names in Hollywood were adopted, I fell in love with her a little more. Here’s the scoop. Thanks to Ecorazzie.com, Bell talks about her adoption story.
“Two different families returned her because they said she was an escape artist but she really felt right to me. About a month in she stopped escaping and now she is my very best friend.”
As for Mr. Shakes, turns out he had a good reason to be shaking. He was first in line to be euthanized at the shelter when Bell swooped in and adopted him to keep Lola company during the day. He still shakes even while he happily sits in Bell’s lap.
