Most gas station employees don’t fit the description of a dog, especially not a black mutt named Negão, but that doesn’t matter to the customers in this Brazil business.
Negão is the friendly, furry, gas station mascot, that greets everyone with a smile and a tail wag, which makes this dog’s tragic story even sweeter.

Two years ago, Sabrina Plannerrer and her partner purchased a Shell gas station under construction in the small town of Mogi das cruces, Brazil. Quickly after purchasing the property, the pair discovered Negão roaming around on site. The dog was abandoned on the land and too frightened to ever leave.
Planerrer couldn’t walk away and leave Negão. She quickly stepped up and changed his life.
“We adopted him immediately and got him all the care animals need,” Plannerer told The Dodo. “We took him to the vet to get vaccinated and de-wormed. We bought him food, a dog house, and a leash to take him on walks.”
Once the gas station finally opened, they hired their first employee, Negão. He looks the part with a Shell gas hat, a badge and a purpose, to serve the customers with a smile.
Although Plannerer wasn’t sure how well Negão would do with the customers, considering he was homeless and afraid before, he exceeded every expectation.
“Negão waits for people to arrive, and then goes up to say hello, winning them over with his charms,” Plannerer says. “Customers love him. Some people even bring him toys.”
Negão has a full time job at the Shell station greeting folks, and it comes with many great perks. He gets plenty of exercise, fresh air and love. Plannerer, gas station employees and fans of Negão walk him all over the city to make sure he gets the proper care he needs. He’s one loved dog.
Charity, GRUPO Fera, works with dogs like Negão that may be homeless or abused and pairs them with businesses in the event that they cannot find them a traditional home.
“It’s been sensational, encouraging people to have more respect for animals,” a spokesperson from Grupo FERA tells The Dodo. “And workers enjoy having the companionship of a 4-legged colleague.”
Negão is basically the spokesdog for Group FERA. She is well behaved, friendly and happy to call the gas station her safe place.
Negão now sees Plannerer and the Shell gas station as her home and appears to be grateful for every new day the world gives her.
