Apparently the average dog sleeps about 14 hours a day. That’s a lot of sleep. When I sleep for 14 hours I’m either deathly ill or extremely hung over. My dog doesn’t even know what hung over means. So why do they sleep for so long and do they even need this much sleep? Let’s take a look:

Puppies: A puppy needs a lot of sleep, just like a baby.
Older dogs: An older dog is a sleepy dog. This is a natural part of a dogs aging.
Working Dogs: Dogs like police dogs or service dogs will tend to sleep less because they’re active for the majority of the day. Companion animals will be alongside their lively human.
Herding Dogs: Dogs that work physically throughout the day, such as livestock guarding dogs or sheepdogs take naps regularly but not as often as the average house dog. They’ve got work to do!
