Our dogs can be mysterious, wolf-like creatures and I’m sure, as many of you know, dog bites can be traumatizing. Never risk another dog bite by following these simple warning signs below:

- Yawning, licking lips or avoiding eye contact
These behaviors don’t necessarily mean a bite will happen, but it does mean your dog is uncomfortable.
- Seeing the whites of their eyes
Whoa. This is intense. A dog will not take their eyes off a target if threatened which sometimes results in seeing the whites of their eyes.
- Stiff Body
Every part of a dog’s body will look relaxed if they are feeling happy emotions. If a dog is on edge, every muscle in their body will be tense. Intense.
- Wagging tail
I know this sign doesn’t make a lot of sense to many dog owners but a wagging tail can mean a dog is happy or a dog is anxious. A happy tail wag is usually accompanied by an entire body shake but an on edge tail wag consists of a slow wag with a high tail in the air.
- Growling, snapping or showing teeth
This is a given. If you or someone else’s dog is showing any of these signs, step away from the dog and identify the reasons this animal may be angry or scared.
- Fur standing up on their back
Fur raises, angry faces. I just made that up, but it’s something to remember. If a dog’s fur raises it means they are feeling threatened. Not a good sign.
