We’ve all seen our dogs chow down on that green, tasteless plant and it’s really strange. But why do they do it? I’ve heard all sorts of different reasons. They’re sick and it helps their belly. They like the way it tastes. It helps them throw up. The list goes on and on. But what’s the REAL truth?
Well, according to PetMd dogs seek out the grass for a gassy or upset stomach. Grass for gas. When our dogs swallow the grass the sharp blades trigger their gag reflex, allowing them to throw-up whatever was hurting their stomachs. So one of the theories was right!

Your dog could also be ingesting the grass for additional nutrients. The bottom line is, you don’t have to worry! It’s perfectly natural. If your dog seems to really love the grass, incorporate veggies in their diet. Cooked carrots, peas and corn are always great options to add to any dog food.
Of course if your dog is eating a crazy amount of grass and won’t stop, go see a vet. That’s unnatural and there could be an issue with your dog.
