Our dogs are a part of our families and we all want them to live long, meaningful, healthy lives. So is it really important to serve them fancy dog food made from scratch? Is it really the fountain of youth for dogs?
I have some thoughts on this.

Growing up, I had 4 different dogs that lived beyond the age of 14. That’s a pretty long time for medium sized dogs. Want to know what my dad fed them? Table scraps, cheap dog food, left over mystery meat and various other things lying around the house. He didn’t feed them top of the line dog food that one can only purchase in a specialty store or online. No, he just bought regular dog food, put it in a bowl and that was that. I’m not saying it’s a good thing to feed your dog whatever you want and hope for the best but do we really need to fork over hundreds of dollars a month for dog food?

Not to sound like your grandmother, but back in my day we treated our dogs with love and respect but we didn’t overdo it. We didn’t buy dog food that you have to put in a blender with a teaspoon of water and a dash of sea salt for additional flavor. We didn’t have the specialty dog food shops that cost more than the food buffet in Whole Foods. We just let our dog live! It’s kind of like kids these days! Do they really need the gluten-free, grass-fed, egg white, chicken strips? Probably not. Everyone just chill! Give your dog (and your kid) decent food, exercise and attention and they’ll be just fine.
So maybe fancy dog food isn’t worth it — but check out these pampered pooches!
