Do you secretly want to be a movie star but realize the odds are extremely low, so you’ll settle on living vicariously through your dog? No shame in that! In fact, we’re here to help you rocket your pooch into stardom as quickly as possible. Here are a few tips to get started!
First and foremost: train, train, train! Dogs have to be extremely well trained on-leash and off-leash to be considered for a role in a Hollywood movie, a TV show or even a photoshoot! Be sure your dog is able to respond to commands with lots of distractions – film sets can get crazy! A few of the most common commands on a film set are “go to a mark,” “head down,” “speak,” “on your side” and “go with” so try starting with these.

Next, make sure your pooch is properly pampered. Directors have been known to choose their doggie actors based on looks. After all, tricks can be taught but looks cannot! If you’re trying to decide which type of dog to adopt, Hollywood’s most commonly chosen breeds for the movies are Golden Retrievers, yellow Labs, Border Collies, Jack Russell Terriers and Bulldogs. Once you settle on a breed, be sure to maintain your dog’s appearance as well as their physical health! Just like human actors, your dog needs to be in the very best shape for his Hollywood career!
Last but certainly not least, get your dog in the right place at the right time! While true dog agencies don’t quite exist, there are plenty of companies that offer training courses for dogs and will even market your pooch for upcoming film and TV roles (Hollywood Paws, Le Paws, etc.). Do a bit of online research before choosing the right agent for your dog.
