Dogs disappear every day. It’s heartbreaking for the dog owner and incredibly stressful for our beloved dog friends. Not only is it nerve-wracking and confusing losing a dog, it’s a similar feeling finding a stray dog.

Where to go? What to do? How to help? Here are some tips:
- First, you should stay calm
The dog will react to your energy and it won’t help anything or any dog being frantic.
- Give the dog food and water
You never know how many days or even weeks the dog has been stranded. Be a friend and help the poor pup out.
- If the animal is acting aggressive or extremely unnerved, do not force the animal into your home
Call the authorities. An animal with rabies or aggression could be dangerous to you and your family.
- Check for ID
There could be an emergency number, a name to call the dog or even a local vet number. Call every number and leave urgent messages.
- Take the dog to get scanned for a microchip
Many dogs are microchipped every day. This can help track down the owners and help them get back to safety.
- Post fliers around town, create Facebook and Instagram posts and spread word around your state
Social media is a great tool and a promising way to find the owner of a dog easily. If you can’t find the dog’s owner and happen to fall in love, consider adopting it. That’s how my mom found the love of her life, Louie, the Chihuahua.
Good luck and I hope these tips help you on your dog saving journey.
