Summer is officially here people! It’s time to take that camping trip you’ve always wanted to go on with your dog! Grab your tent, sleeping bags, and hit the road! Time for a doggy camp out! Here’s what you’ll need for you and your dog:
- Food and Snacks
Most importantly, you can’t forget the food. I only brought a jalapeño, and 3 sausages on a 4-day camping trip once…I only lasted a day. Don’t do what I did. Pack a lot of food! Pack your dog food and dog treats in a plastic bag or an airtight container to keep bears away.
- Water Bowl and Water
Many campsites have water fountains but you can never be certain. Plan ahead and bring water for you and your doggy. A water bowl is also very important because it can be difficult for your dog to drink directly out of the bottle. Also this gives him more of an opportunity to drink whenever he feels thirsty.
Dogs are curious creatures. If they hear a noise, another animal or smell something delicious they will probably go towards it. Bring a leash to prevent this. The last thing you need is your dog befriending an angry bear or a hungry camper wondering where their s’mores went.
- Extra Blankets
Weather in the woods can be unpredictable. One second you’re drenched in sweat and mosquito’s, the next your curdled up by the fire freezing your buns off. Although your dog has a thick fur coat, they can get cold too. Bring an extra blanket that you don’t mind getting dirty. Your dog will sleep much better and so will you.
- Poop Bags
I know this seems silly but you never know where your dog will poop. Your pup might leave you a little present right outside of your tent. You’ll also feel better walking around in the dark without the risk of stepping in a steaming pile of doo-doo. In case you forget your poop bags, check out this article here.
Happy camping dog lovers!
